In 2019, we began a collaboration with Luma, a renowned Spanish brand specializing in anti-theft systems for motorcycles and bicycles. Our challenge was to design the first product of the next generation of electronic locks with alarms targeting bicycles and motorcycles. The project introduces an innovative category of products to the market that transforms the way users interact with them, offering various functionalities such as an alarm and monitoring system through an app, among others.

User Experience – Throughout the process, we identified one of the main concerns of users: the potential damage that electronic locks could cause to motorcycle fairings and bicycle frames. For this reason, we designed a lock with friendly and rounded shapes that not only prevent damage but also make the product easier and more pleasant to handle.

User Analysis – Access to the batteries is hidden and can only be gained when the lock is unlocked, preventing potential loss of key security functions. First, the shackle must be opened. Through one of the shackle’s holes aligned with the cover, it is possible to disassemble it using a regular Phillips screwdriver. This part, in particular, must be watertight to ensure that the electronic components are not damaged by weather or other external factors.

CMF Design –Since the product not only needs to be secure but also act as a deterrent to potential theft, we decided to highlight the hole pattern in the alarm audio output. Additionally, the use of color is essential, as a striking color range prevents theft. The simplicity of the design allows for the choice of any color for the main body of the lock. The result is an honest, functional, and secure design, completely adapted to the use and electronic nature of the product.
