BoardGameStorage
Filler Gaming is a company that embraces the “Good Design” philosophy for creating genuine accessories for modern board games. With the premise of launching through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, we have developed the first product that brings Filler to the market.
The aim was to develop a storage system for small board games with dimensions similar to a large box game, in order to organise the game collection uniformly. Board games spend most of their time on shelves, much like books in a library, so it is important to have a well-organised collection.
The product concept – The most common large box games are 30x30cm², while small pocket games are 12×9.5cm². In addition to this, the most popular shelf for a game collection is the IKEA KALLAX, which has modules of 33.5×33.5cm². With these parameters, we established the dimensions that the system should have. Under a rationalist aesthetic, we create a colourful, scalable product identity for Filler, an aesthetic that also sets it apart completely from the competition. Carefully crafted and simple shapes aim to maximize the use of space and reduce visual clutter.
Design Details – It was crucial to achieve a storage system specifically designed for board games. We accomplished this by transforming the covers into something more; trays to organize the game components on one side, and dice trays with neoprene on the other. This feature adds functional duality to the product, allowing for both static storage and dynamic use during a game.
CMF Design (Color, Finish, Material) – The storage units are designed to be manufactured in thick plastic to enhance product longevity, with a matt and gloss finish for the relief details and trays. The inside of the covers is lined with thick neoprene for the dice tray. The base is made of thick, heavy metal to prevent bending and ensure it does not move when the inner storage unit is removed. The use of color is essential, with a monochromatic application of a striking color palette, though different from the usual conventional palette of board games.
Product launch – The product naming, which later becomes the brand name itself. The word “filler” is a term used in the hobby to refer to small, short-duration games that “fill in” the gaps in long gaming sessions. In addition to this, the studio was responsible for comprehensive project management, including its launch. We managed of the pre-campaign, campaign, and post-campaign of crowdfunding on Kickstarter, which successfully raised $150,000 USD during the campaign alone, fully funding of the project within the first thirty minutes. →ExploreTheCampaign
