Product Design and Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

Candela is part of MoCa’s “Routines” initiative, a collection of the studio’s internal processes born from personal needs. In this context, the exercise begins with the use of candles at home, particularly tea lights, which are commonly used to create both olfactory and visual atmospheres. Candela’s main objective is to design a tealight holder that also serves as a storage container for the candles.

The result is a set of two pieces that, through their shape, aim for maximum efficiency in their purpose. The lid, which can also function as an independent tray, serves as a candle holder, while the base acts as a container that can store up to 6 tea lights.

Design for manufacturing – The choice of materials is based on fire usage considerations. Therefore, Candela is made of steel with a powder coating to ensure color durability. Additionally, the natural weight provided by the material is important to ensure that the object remains stable on the surface during use and does not move at the slightest touch, especially when the candle is lit.
